 About Political Engagement for Staff and Faculty

As our life’s work is rooted in serving Californians and California communities, it’s natural that many UC employees are deeply invested and involved in political activities. Although such engagement as private citizens is permissible and common, it’s crucial to remember that many laws and policies prohibit the university from engaging in political activities in support or opposition to candidates, parties and ballot measures.

UC Advocacy Network (UCAN)

The UC Advocacy Network (UCAN) is a community of committed people who lend their voices to shape state and federal policies promoting the university’s mission of education, research and public service.

Joining is easy and you'll receive UC communications, updates and requests to make your voice heard.  

UC Advocacy Network is a digital advocacy tool that everyone can use to reach out to legislators on important issues that affect the entire UC community.

Advocacy Opportunities for UC Davis Students #DoublePell

The Pell Grant is the main way the federal government helps low-income students afford college, with more than 7 million students taking advantage of the grant each year to pay a portion of their educational expenses. Forty years ago, the Pell Grant covered more than 75 percent of a student’s four-year public college costs. Over time, disinvestment has eroded the value of the grant to around 28 percent.
